Two of the Easiest (and Best) Browser Tips for Productivity

Being able to navigate around the Internet browser is a must. Not only is it the front face of most of your Internet-based efforts, there are more security and privacy threats that people need to sidestep today than ever before. This month we thought we’d give you two of the top tips on how to be able to navigate your browser.

Use Keyboard Shortcuts

One of the best ways to improve your navigation around your browser is to master the keyboard shortcuts supported by the browser. Not all keyboard shortcuts work in every browser, but there are plenty that work in most applications. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular.

  • Open a new tab - Ctrl + T to open a new tab.
  • Close current tab - Ctrl + W to close the current tab.
  • Reopen closed tab - Ctrl + Shift + T to reopen it.
  • Switch between tabs - Use Ctrl + Tab to move to the next tab and Ctrl + Shift + Tab to move to the previous tab.
  • Jump to a specific tab - Press Ctrl and a number key (1-9) to jump to a specific tab in your browser.
  • Focus on address bar - Press Ctrl + L or Alt + D to quickly highlight the address bar.

On top of these, the normal shortcuts like copy, paste, undo, and more are supported in nearly every major browser, so being able to navigate through them can save you a lot of time and effort.

Pin Frequently Used Tabs

If you have websites that you visit regularly, consider pinning them for easy access. Pinned tabs occupy less space and remain open even when you close and reopen your browser.

  • How to pin a tab - In Chrome, right-click on the tab you want to pin and select "Pin" The tab will shrink to show only the site's icon and move to the left side of the tab bar.
  • Unpinning a tab - Right-click on the pinned tab and select "Unpin" to return it to its normal size.

This feature helps keep your browser organized and ensures that your most important sites are always just a click away.

At Atech MSP, we offer tips and tricks on how to use the technology you depend on weekly in our blog. Check it out regularly for more information.
